Hi all been off for a while but that's mostly to do with being very fed up with the bike but any advice would be appreciated. As said before brought a Carrera Kraken from Halfords lovely bike at first then the skeletal hydraulic brakes started going wrong. After 5 visits to Halfords bike dept am still having problems. Now instead of a nice brake pull I have no resistance on front brake and very hard back brake, after speaking to clarks they said their brakes should need servicing once a year other people are saying change the system to either less expensive shimano system or slightly more expensive Diore system. Halfords as its now out of warranty cannot be bothered so what i'd like to know is better to bleed (again) or change totally and if so for what? thanks for any advice tony

If the initial visit about the brakes was within the one year warranty period I'd be back into Halfords to get them to rectify the problem under warranty as they obviously messed it up the first few times!

I see that part of the agreement Halfords signed with Boardman for him to agree to keep them as the sole source for his lovely bikes was that Halfords would fund training programmes for its bike department staff. Perhaps one day in the future, the lads in Halfords will know something about the bikes they sell. Go to Halfords for the good prices, but don't expect anyone to understand anything about bikes there

I would bleed both front and rear to see if that helps.

Regaring 1 year warranty - google up cnsumer law - this warranty thing is what shops use to fob people off - the goods need to be of usable and durable quality for a reasonable lebgth of time, not icluding wear and tear - and that period can be well beyond the warranty period - I don't 1 year for a set of disc brakes is "a reasonable time" - sure, the pads aren't under warranty as they are desinged to wear down, but the rest is.
