Hey all, as this is my first post here i must say i've enjoyed reading a few of the posts and overall the community here seems very friendly and welcoming to say the least ^^.

I hope someone out there is able to shed a little light on an issue i've recently had with a road bike i purchased around 3-4 weeks ago. It's been going fine after a few alterations adding silly things like the usual water holders/computer/lights and the sorts. Nothing that should really "imo" make this noise.

Over the course of the last 3 days i noticed a click/crunch/clunk type noise coming from my peddle section of the bike everytime i put pressure while peddling. I've had it upside down and free-riding on the road and never seems to make the noise. I've also changed the peddles and made sure they were firmly secured in place and went over all the cables to see if it perhaps was something hitting elsewhere that i've had the misfortune to not notice but everything seems to be in order.

Is it normal or natural for this sort of issue to occur with only having it for just less than a month?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and look forward to any info that might shed some light on this annoying issue.

Times when I've had that sort of noise it's been the point where the crank is connected to the axle creaking. I fixed it by removing the cranks, applying a light layer of grease to the tapered axle end and the bolts, then reassembled and tightened well.

p.s. Welcome to CycleChat!

Is it possible for you to get it checked out where you purchased the bike?

What bike do you have?

Really difficult to diagnose noises over the internet.

Will dig up a link for you if I can find it...

Found it .... "Keep It Quiet"

Aha thanks!, i'll be having a look at it later on today and give it a bash, thanks for the quick replies ^^.

Sadly it was one i pre-ordered through a catalogue so it becomes somewhat difficult in terms of returning which is where my concern arose from "how to fix" ;).

Check the big bolt that holds your saddle in place. This can work loose over time and allow small movements of the rails in the cradle, which can produce noises in time with your pedalling that sound as if they are coming from lower down. Remove the bolt and apply some grease to the threads then re-tighten.

In fact if the bike is new you ought to be checking everything for tightness as it settles down.

As the others have said - but I would add that the first thing I do is give everything that tightens up a firm waggle to see if there is any play.

If you suspect it is the cranks then grab a crank and then push and pull it sideways - you should feel some play beyond the natural flex of the crank arm.
