Coming to the end of a rebuild of a 1982 Raleigh Record Ace. When the brakes were disassembled I found that the mushroom nipples appeared to be floating free tight under the hood. The brakes were never tested hard with a descent, but appeared to work on the few short flattish outings I made. Clearly worrying!!! Fortunately, I suspect, I had the frame re-enamelled so no damage to me. But want to get it right this time.
With 5mm cable housing there is a fair fit into the top so looks like an end ferrule was not needed. (Indeed it is too big).
The question is what is the best way to get this done? A touch of glue???
