Hi All,

Did'nt know which section to put this in this or Knowhow ?

My question is, how much weight will a carbon fibre frame take? I'm close to 18 stone and was going to buy the Cube Agree Race when I noticed that the recommended weight limit for the rider was 115kg!
Obviously I'm smack on the limit , bit gutted been saving up , had a test ride, looking forward to it , but could I get away with it ? Or will it break on the first good hammering ?

Yours Heavily

Benn.

In between here and there
Spesh have 125kg, some wheelsets as low as 90k both which surprised me!

Email Cube and ask them if it is the wheelset setting the limit or the frame? If its the wheels do a deal with your LBS.

I'd be a bit worried about weight limits on kit and frames. Even if you are way below it, I'd not want to be riding on potentially fragile wheels, or frame.

Most say no limit !

Everything has a limit Fossyant!

I suspect that the bike manufacturers that quote weight limits are doing so in hope of limiting potential liability. Good engineering practice is to exceed expected design load tolerance by a factor of three. I am hoping bike manufacturers employ good engineers

Of course, static load and dynamic load are very different things.

@OP - I think your plan sounds like a good one

Thanks Vamp! Was a bit worried by fossyant's replies , I thought the agree was a 1230g frame . I would like to know what these frames are tested to , but you'll probably never get that info off the manufacturers . I've worked out, to be on the safe side, I need to lose 20lbs  . But im going to go for it !

I can't quite see the reason for wanting something with such limitations.Square peg and round holes often don't suit.

Trek told me the 290lbs limit was for the weakest part ( the aero wheels ) they indicated there wasn't an actual limit on the frame but they wouldn't actually say it

Go for it.

I am sure the wheels will be the weakest part. If you find they're wearing out faster than normal, get yourself a super tough wheelset made up by someone like these guys - Strada - and save the originals for when you're svelte again

I have a 2010 Agree GTC Race and was nearly 18st when I bought it, just over a year later I am now just under 16 if that is anything to go by !

Its an awesome bike for the money, and may be looking at getting a HPC next year after some winter overtime !!!
