Wearing out my elbows

I had a good long ride yesterday, 130 miles, sun and cloud all the way, just perfect.
Then 4 miles from home, there was a light shower, and being tired, I didn't dismount at the level crossing, where the rails cut diagonally across the road.
Big mistake.
Fell off, came down with a crunch.
I could see my elbow was bleeding, but after checking the bike was ok, I got on and carried on home.

I had a shower, Mr B did a lovely tea, I came on here a bit, and the elbow was still sticky and horrid, so I asked him to take a look in case there was gravel/glass stuck in it.

'That's not gravel', he says 'I can see your bone'

A and E on a Saturday night!
Stitching down a flap of skin, 12 stitches!
What's that about priceless?

It's always the same flipping elbow though!

Ah, endorphins, the natural painkiller, you don't notice you have a wound until you find blood somewhere on you, I've cut myself so many times on my ankle/lower leg area and not noticed until someone pointed it out when I got home. In your case it seemed a bit more extreme - you didn't notice your bone protruding until someone told you

That is v bad luck. I too had an elbow injury recently land I now find the skin is thin/vulnerable

A few weeks ago I heard part of Geoffrey Boycott's TMS commnetary in which he mentioned a strapping/plaater that batmen use to cushion the impact of cricket balls. Your comment has prompted me to do some web research - I will let you know if I have any luck and of course as a Yorkshireman MrB may have cricket contacts
