I got bike oil on my favourite sweatshirt so (following the advice on this forum!) I gave it a blast of WD40 and popped it into the washing machine. Brilliant - the oil came out a treat! But when it dried there was a dark area where I'd sprayed the WD40... so I gave it a rub with some Swafega and put it through again. The dark area is still there.

So, I suppose I could immerse the whole shirt in WD40 and make it a uniform dark grey but I'd rather get the stain out and have a light grey shirt again - suggestions please?

rather then industrial solvents have you considered targeted cleaners? vanish or perhaps even stain devil?

Or... this great grease tip sent in by Sharon from Terrace, British
Columbia, Canada; "If you have a set in grease stain, just spray the stain with
WD-40 and let it sit about 20 minutes. Then, rub a dollop of liquid dish
detergent (Dawn is a good one) onto the WD-40 stain and rub in well. Rinse and
smear on a bit more dish detergent and then wash as usual" Thanks Sharon I use
this one myself!
Seems they missed a stage out but possibly it may be too late after washing it already.

Dont oil your bike whilst wearing your favourite shirt

I was only lifting it onto the wall rack - honest!

Have you tried using WD40 to remove the dark stained area?

Success - I resprayed it WD40, rubbed in a good splodge of washing up liquid, washed it by hand and then popped it into the washing machine for a rinse/spin. By this morning it's dry and the stain has gone!

Your joking, I was only taking the P**s, thats ruined my day now.

Perhaps the first time, it only thinned the oil out and spread it over a bigger area but the fairy liquid broke both the oil and wd40 down and made it wash out

It's OK - I'd already done it before you posted - but I didn't know if it had worked until the shirt dried out
