Hi

Could anyone recommend a waterproof jacket, preferably not cycle specific, which is suitable for both cycling and hiking/climbing. From what I've read, event fabric seems the way to go and have been looking at the montane stuff (venture and superfly). Would these be suitable for bike wear?

Thanks

I'm still dithering about what eVent jacket to buy, but I'm off to Covent Garden tomorrow to try on a Paramo Quito jacket after reading this review:

Big fan of the Paramo Velez - equally good for cycling (perhaps not flat out chain gang stuff) or walking. Super breathable, waterproof, multiple venting, great kangaroo pouch on the front. Pop off hood. Way too warm for summer, too heavy to carry on the off chance of a shower - its so breathable, the idea is just to wear it!

Yes thanks, the quito looks nice, but its a bit pricey, I dont really want to spend over £150. The velez will be way too warm for me (for cycling) , although I've always fancied one for other outdoor activities.

In my experience what you have to watch out for if you wear too long a jacket at the back, is that it doesn't get caught up behind the saddle when you put a foot down to stop. It can either bring you off or give you a nasty shock, when you find your foot goes down onto the ground but your jacket stays put!!!

I've had that problem - put me off cycling in that particular coat.

The Quito jacket was really nice and the staff attentive and knowledgeable. Sadly, I was just in between sizes. Medium was an inch or two too short at the back and the large a couple of inches too big around the chest. I could have got away with either - but it's a lot of money for a jacket that is not quite there fit wise. I'm still dithering.

Mens medium bid of £69.99 New and 45mins to go on ebay.....

Try TKMaxx!

They often have Goretex jackets at ridiculous prices.... my Paclite Cycle Jacket was £30 (RRP £125) and my walking jacket (Berghaus Temperance) was £60 (RRP £200)

Bit hit and miss, but at those prices.......

Depends what you wear with it I guess and how warm or cool your body runs normally. I'm on the look out for a new one and am in between a proper jacket stylee with less clothes worn underneath (as I am now) or an Altura pocket rocket thats tiny and can be stowed away until it rains with my usual dry weather base and softshell.

I got the big one as an unexpected present a couple of years ago and have had to show willing and wear it in the depths of winter but am always just a tad warm in it.
