Just woke to find a message from my wife "Sorry there's water in my tyres'"?/?

Off to the garage I go and sure enough sloshing and gurgling can be heard when I spin the wheels.

What on earth has she been up to? I took the wheels and tyres off the bike to find the rims full of water.

She has a Giant SCR 3.0 road bike that used to belong to me. I have done many a mile in some truly awful weather and never managed to pull the same stunt off.

Has this ever happened to anybody else?

Whats going on?

Usually the spinning keeps the water out. But if you stop in a puddle the water will get in. Its a common problem on deep rims with tubs too because there is no esacpe for the water that gets in.

You could try greasing her nipples.

Or filling any holes.

Seigi got it spot on we have a lane that floods near us she said that she didn't want to turn round so she stubbornly waded through 2 ft of water, when it shallowed out a bit she got on and rode on, mystery solved. She said it was like resistance training?

With the wheels off it was a good op to show her some basic bike maintenance as she didn't have a clue, mainly about flat tyres and inner tubes and stuff. Which leads me to the other comments from arsen gear and moodyman which we are still chuckling at.

Should have seen her first efforts with the track pump, made my day this has... Cheers.

Are they double walled rims? And have you changed the inner tube since you rode it? I've had it where the water has got into the space between the two walls and you could hear it sloshing around as you rotated the rim. Was a devil of a job to get out and I cured it by sealing hole round where the valve came out. Mine filled up riding through deep water.

I took the tyres and inner tubes off the wheels drained the rim (left it for a few hours so that it could all drip out), I think the tube will be fine as I dryed them sharpish and applied talc before putting it all back together.

Filling the hole makes sense though I think I'll ask the wife not to try fording deep water on her road bike first.

Some tractors use water to ballast their tyres.
Not the same thing though.

Never come across it myself but an interesting concept of water leaking in from puddles.

Not the same, but still interesting.
