I have a Cannondale Bad Boy Hybrid with Hope Mono Minis on, I noticed the front brakes were binding yesterday on the way home, along with a under inflated rear tyre due to an earlier puncture it was hard going.

I had a look tonight and the disk seems out of shape, took it off and it doesnt sit flat on a flat surface, its kind of gone basket shaped, I fitted new pads which said brake hard and then tip water on, I think this is what has killed it, luckily I have a spare but I am surprised that the manufacturers of the pads (Superstar) recommend this if it can warps disks or is there some other reason ?

I doubt cooling the disc with water caused it to warp - maybe.

Couldn't you just bend it back?

Superstar pads are starting to have a very bad reputation, not that his would affect the disc too much.

Just bend it into the right flat shape with the jaws of an adjustable spanner

Yes, it's quite easy. Just little bits at a time until it's straight.

Actually, chucking cold water onto a hot brake is a stupid thing to recommend.

What am I doing on the internet on Xmas day? Waiting for the shower to become vacant!, kids Uh!

Anyway, about this problem.
Many disks on Range Rovers - ( the yanks call them Brake rotors ) are changed due to misshape after the car has been driven hard and braked hard and then been plunged into a river or water splash.

Its like pouring cold water into your frying pan while its still hot! It will never return to shape.

As for getting the rotor changed, I think you're stuffed unless you can prove the pads OEM instructions were detremental and take up the case with them.

Merry Christmas Everyone,,,

Have a goodun. ;)

Yes, I think the disk is knackered, shame as it isnt very worn, the Suprstar pads do have a variable reputation, but for commuting I just wanted soem more bite and as they are sintered I was hoping this might be the case, the do seem better but in following their instructions I have buggered the disk, I have a spare so will stick that on, it seemed like a bad idea but I just thought as they recommend it, it should be ok and the disks must get pretty hot and wet (oo er missus) during the pounding they get in downhill so a bit of me doing some hard braking on the flat and quenching them as recommended should have been ok. Explains my labourious commute the other night, binfing brakes and a tyre at 30 psi, explains why my legs were aching yesterday !

I suppose I should get a floating disk now, I dont use them that hard in the commute but they just look so damn cool !

Sintered pads don't have as much bite as resin pads.
In fact in terms of braking performance resin pads should out-perform sintered in just about every way. The reason people buy sintered pads is they last several times longer than resin pads.
