Is anybody on here taking part in this? https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/103917/Ware

I've never done a sportive before, but always wanted to, and seeing as this is fairly close, I was thinking this might be the one! I would do the full 82 miles (I commute 160 miles a week), and was wondering if anyone had any advice/info/encouragements that would be useful!

Thanks,
S
advice:
1. don't be tempted to go off too fast as many people do, you'll pass them all later if you pace yourself well.
2. don't ride in a group of random people, many of them will be inexperienced and you'll soon end up crashing into the back of a parked car or smashing through a huge pothole!
3. do enjoy the occasion and the route arrows
4. do make good use of any free food!

Thanks for that, I am slightly worried about the riding with other people as I only ride alone, I think I'd rather just go solo!

I've been at uni for 7 years, this is my area of expertise!

I've done a few sportives, but never this one. I've signed up though along with my mate and my son. I agree with the all the advice above. I normally start steady and see how I feel towards the end if I want to crank up the speed
I did the March March Hare sportive last year, started off too quickly and reall struggled with the distance, and the hills!
This ride looks pretty flat by comparison though!

I am probably going to do this one, not sure which distance yet, depends how my training goes between now and then. (probably the 50 miler then ^_^)

Hi there,

Yes, I'll be doing this one and I've never done a sportive before either.

I've seen you ride with other people....

£25 for a bike ride? World's gone mad!

thank you for that. I clicked the link and was surprised to see it sold more than a month in advance.

Now notice it was nearly 2 years ago

Is there a diss-battle going on between @Dave 123 and @Stephen C?

I started this thread before I first met and rode with @Dave 123 thinking that sportive would be a good idea. It has since been pointed out to me that I can ride the same roads for the cost of a scone and cup of coffee....although the selection of company was a little limited...
