Well to cut a long story short.. I've been off the bike for over 6 months now, due to an injury in my leg and awaiting physio treatment through the NHS (as you can see there not very quick) I have been given the all clear to go back on the bike as my injuries were caused through running.

I attended a gym for a while and did some weight training and put on a bit of weight (in a good way) now im wanting to keep that look, its not a lot at all just I sort of started to have the Shleck look going on and now I look more healthier and filled out.

The question is if I start cycling again will I lose it all or is there any ways to keep it? Ive been told my body will burn the calories used to help build me up.

Thanks Turbo.

i think you will need to combine the weight training with the bike. it's probably about keeping the balance, so where as you would have gone all out on the bike before, swap some of that bike time for gym time, eat loads and loads of chicken and get some whey protein!

As Buggi said, its a balancing act.

Keeping a muscular, well defined body AND having enough energy for a bike ride without the carbo-loading being immediately stored as fat IS a masterly lifestyle.

I lived like this for well over twenty years. I wanted the muscular military body AND big powerful legs for riding a bike, AND endurance.

The Atkins diet gives a clue. Find out how many carbs you need to maintain weight with NO exercising. This takes a comprehensive spreadsheet with 'Cals in', 'Cals out', 'Fat %' and 'Weight'.

Once your threshold is found, eat carbs ONLY for the exercising.
As Buggi says also, eat good quality protein. About 2g per kg bodyweight.

Keep up the weight training.
The sessions MUST include squats, leg extensions, hyperextensions, donkey calf raises and deadlift. Leg curls are optional..

Out on a bike ride, eat good 'high GI' carbs 2 hours before you need them. This will avoid the overnight fat storage.

..or just exercise and enjoy yourself. Go to the gym twice a week to try maintain the physique and cycle for the cardio element. I find if I tried the muscular military body look I would probably have lapses in the schedule as it would not be enjoyable enough to maintain.
