I have asked this question previously elsewhere, most reccomended me buying a garmin 800 or 810, lots of dough, i have two reasons why i have not invested is 1) i carry my iphone all time, 2) i like using cyclemeter/strava..

In my strava i have 4 rides listed, but every thursday i do 45-60 mins of full on interval training, which the guy i train with records, i was thinking of buying a cadence/speed sensor and possibly a heart rate monitor, which would enable me to record not just my rides out and about, but also my off road as well.

so can someone finally put this to bed for me, the blue sc is £50 i have the apps and the phone already, admittedly if i was to buy a heart rate monitor as well, it's another £70, so i would be investing another £140 or do i buy the garmin 500/510/800/810... i really don't need all the bells and whistles, i enjoy cycling road and off road purely for fitness and getting out with friends.

Well i got the blue sc and fitted it worked really well, only problem i seem to have had, the part that goes over the pedal arm has been hit and grazed quite a few times, not sure how i have maneged that, but it's a tad worrying as that's the place it's supposed to sit, so it can meet up with the sensor! any ideas how i can avoid this, i have asked wahoo if they sell replacement parts as well.

I was in the same boat as you and although I can see the merits of the Garmin, at my level of training and fitness it would have been too much gadgetry for the bike so went on the Wahoo HRM & SC route and I'm very pleased with them. You can always sell them on eBay to recover 50-70% of their value in case you want to upgrade. The HRM is great for running too and I'm sharing it with my wife.

As for the crank magnet rubbing, I guess you would have to identify the source of it first. If installed correctly it could either be the bike's frame, the sensor itself or the shoe, depending on which side is affected. Haven't had this problem yet.

it's definitely the shoe side, just worried because it looks pretty battered in a day, which is useless if i can't just replace that particular part, it works great just don't understand how it hit it with my foot, as i think i would notice constantly hitting the pedal arm.

In between here and there
cheers will check that out, this actually the magnet, the part i would need to replace is the rubber section with the magnate inside, which your push round the pedal arm, i am wondering if it's possible to put electrical tape over the top to protect it, or i will that stop the sensor working?
The garmin crank mounts are crap too and move around or catch the chainstay on certain bikes, there is a recess where the pedal goes and these sit in there. A magnet is a magnet so you do notneed any othet bits

I ended up buying a basic magnet, which stuck itself to the inside of the pedal, used a bit of electrical tape to secure it in place, been perfect ever since
