Right I've decided my new MTB is gonna be either one of these (2013 models). I like them both to look at, they get good reviews and have decent spec for the money, either one fits me well/feels comfortable and I can get each, new, cheaper than full retail but never mind that

So, I know of course the Kraken is the better on paper but does that translate to reality?
Is it gonna be worth spending the extra cash on a bit of a better spec, or do as I did with the road bike and use the difference saved to buy kit like shoes etc.

Thoughts?

I got the Kracken a few months ago and am very happy with it although I don`t do it justice riding on road, canal path and easy wood tracks but I seem to remember thinking at the time that it was the better option. I just looked on Halfords site and see for some reason they have removed the specs option on all the bikes pages. They have been lowering the spec on most bikes for last couple of years so maybe now they don`t want to show them.

I have a kraken and second the vote its a competent bike. It has fork lockout for road and canals but when you want to really tear it up down country paths it really instils confidence. It's light (ish) good spec and can take a pounding.

I think I'm leaning towards the Kraken too, I've got most things in terms of clothing etc so probably don't need to save any cash for that stuff.
Although there's a felt q520 on offer at a good price that might have thrown a spanner in the works lol

Oh the Kraken, the colour scheme matches my road bike which is wonderful lol

Took me an hour the other day mud absolutely everywhere I went for a puddle I thought was 4/5 inches deep not 12 inches water 3 inches mud both me and the bike looked like mud monsters and I got some strange looks on the way home. ( not as funny as the time me and the bike landed up in a canal only time I have ever had room on. Train ride home  )

See, I would have considered the Fury but, its only got double chainrings, I'm after a triple and don't really wanna but a new bike only to immediately take stuff off and replace it. Just wanna ride it lol.
Shame that

Having said that I was just trying one (fury) on for size and it is rather nice
