I'm thinking about upgrading my turbo trainer to a VR one. Does anyone have any experience with these, specifically the Tacx Fortius Multiplayer?

I can't get out on the road during the week due to early starts, late fimishes so have to be content with the turbo until the weekends when I can get out. But the turbo is mind numbing, so wondered if these fared any better?

I have the I magic tacx and last winter it was a life saver so to speak, out of the door at 7am and not back till at least 9pm meant very little time to get out on the road, but with a few tacx dvd's and a lot of sweat I was able to put in the miles without getting bored. Add in a 12"+ fan, my Ipod, a couple of water bottles and a towel and I was set for an hour or 2 riding.

When I was doing a long ride I would just set the turbo on to an easy rolling route and then switch over to a dvd movie and just ride away, not perfect but if you are willing to put in the effort then you can almost get away without getting on the road during the winter.

I've also got the i-magic.

I know it's really sad but I actually quite enjoyed racing against my previous times / rides. It certainly encouraged me to push myself much harder (and for longer periods of time) than I would of done if I had just been pedalling away listening to the radio.

Thanks guys, just have to justify the costs to the other half...or just go and buy it and pretend that I've always had it xx(

I have the iMagic too, excellent buy. The steering addition is a good addition as it makes you have to concentrate, and that stops you getting bored. Great racing yourself, too - and you can download others' efforts and compete against them.

I'd never push myself as hard as I do when I'm on the turbo. Buy one, you're all Loreal (you're worth it)
