Hello all, not too tech savvy but looking for a decent reliable VPN to try.

I don't mind paying or adverts but don't want to randomly click on the internet!.

Any proven recommendations welcome!.

Cheers, Keith.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Nordvin? seem to have good reviews. It is an American company i think. Have a look at the reviews online. I think it costs around £4.00 to £4.99 per month.

Some on Google play store are free. Again have a look at the reviews. You may have to sacrafice some internet speed for privacy though.

If it is just emails that you want to keep private Proton mail is a good one.

Also have a look at Duck duck go. They don't keep any info (apparently) about you. You don't have to sign up for anything and you your internet travels are not kept anywhere, so you cannot be tracked or traced. Again have a look at reviews. I know a couple of people who use it and they give it a thumbs up.

Nord is one of the most popular and often recommended:

Used to use it to watch iPlayer until the BBC got wise.

Duckduckgo.com only keeps Google from seeing what you are doing, whoever is providing the WiFi etc still knows your every move.

I suspect he's out of the country and wants to watch Wimbledon.

DuckduckGo is https, all a wifi provider or ISP can see is that you are connected to duckduckgo. They cannot see the url nor can see what your searches are, whether that's the search or the results returned. If you get SSL certificate errors then they are trying to intercept the traffic and you should disconnect at once as it is not a secure connection.

As always, I will just put a few principles out there:

What makes you think any of these companies offer privacy, confidentiality or secrecy?

What activity do you want to hide, that you want these companies to know?

Even Cisco.

Yeah, they can see your searches because - at least by default - they use GET not POST, so your searches are in the URL eg https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Cyclechat+&t=h_&ia=web

And even if you find a work around, your internet provider will also see the URLs of any sites visited.

They cannot see the url, that is encrypted
Of course they can. The URL is the address they send you to. Anything in the URL is visible to all the hosts you pass through.

And even if that wasn't true, your privacy is only protected as long as you don't click any of the search results. As soon you click a link, again your internet provider know where you go.

The only think that duckduckgo.com protects you from is (partially) Google.
