VMO imbalance and cleat position

Okay, have had some issues with my right knee which as of this morning has been diagnosed as an imbalance in my VMO quad, namely that the quad on the outside (exterior) of the leg is far more developed than the inside (VMO). The physio I saw was excellent and has given me some exercises to strengthen the VMO and address this imbalance but I need some help with cleat position as in should they be, looking down at the feet, to the left, to the right, fore or aft to achieve a better riding position with this condition?

I know this is quite vague but if anyone can help, or anyone had this condition, could they advise? I run standard Ultegra SPD-SLs...

Many thanks...

Given the underling imbalance, seeing a bike fitter would be best advice available.
