My father in law who is 67 has an old 'racer' that he purchased when he was 21. Its been hanging in his garage unused for 20 years or so and after a very quick glance it still looks ok!

Dont know the make - but he wants rid and has asked me if i want it before he takes it down the skip

What im asking is : 40 year old bike worth anything??

Im a total novice to vintage so any advice welcome

It's worth bugger all, but you could send it to me for 'recycling'. ;)

It all depends on the condition, how rare it is, it's completeness and if it was a decent bike when new. It might be worth a few hundred quid to a collector or absolutely nowt. Can you take a picture?

Theres no need to hide for saying that.
You could say Mickle is vintage, but he doesnt actually look that old, if you dont pay attention to how saggy his face is.
Id be interested to see the bike. Ive got abit of a thing for old bikes for some reason.
Depending how good it is, or how much you fancy it, i would give it a go at doing some work on it, and seeing how it goes.
You might get a fancy looking bike at the end and have learnt some stuff, or you might just have learnt some stuff but have a crappy old bike.
Either way it might be worth some time.
