This is a re - post. I used the general discussion page and although I had some help it remains unidentified. I have had the frame cica 20 -25 years and had sprayed it 1979 -80 Ford Cortina blue. I think it had been painted already but I have no recollection of what it was like prior. I never knew and had no way of knowing back then what it was. The internet has changed things so hopefully someone out there knows. I think it is a 68mm bottom bracket shell but I've never put one in it. It has been in the loft for at least 20 years. I have rubbed it down and it now has a very thin coating of etch primer. I will mask off the bottom bracket shell before colour and lacquer. From my previous post the bottom bracket shell has been identified as by the Gargatte Brothers (Raccords Gargatte Freres) St. Etienne, France and the lugs as Prugnat. Could be French so I asked a prolific French seller of frame on eBay (with French translation) if he/she knew what it was. Bit of a long shot knowing I wasn't looking to buy and sure enough have been met with stolid silence. So here goes another try. I think it is from a mass producer - there was a fair bit of brazing spatter that I have filed down and the brazing itself to me doesn't look neat enough for an independent frame builder to have supplied. But who knows ?
I would guess it is pre 1980, maybe 70s possibly 60s . It has a boss on the downtube for a 5 speed shifter, brake cable guides on the top tube plus pump mounts. There are cable guides on the BB housing and rear stay. It has a metal lining tube inside the BB shell. The seat tube appears to be 26.6. Frame and forks together weigh 3.315 kg. It has had a metal head badge in the past, the holes are tiny - approx 1.5mm diameter oriented vertically 45mm apart. Frame no. 138439. I have looked at pretty much every bike and frame for sale on eBay/Gumtree for the last few weeks and still not found one like mine.
