Vintage dawes road bike

Just bought this really nice condition
Came with orginal engraved handlebars
Brooks b17 saddle been stood for ten years
Rode it it rides really nice and gears change smoothly does anybody know model and year its looks late fifths
Just going to clean and put orginal handlebars back on with new tape I think brakes are later

That looks like a very early model, great find.
The saddle should be worth a fair bit, I’d sell on as it doesn’t really suit the bike. Are you sure it’s a B17, looks like a B67?
A narrower brooks without springs would look great.

Looks like an early 1960’s model although the Chainset may be later. The 5 speed Campag derailleur and shifter are nice

Yep, an early one the Maxy chainset was a popular 70's upgrade for a steel chainset Still has the original red caps too

Very nice. When you’re replacing the bars I should also change all the cables and outer housings, after ten years they will be rusted and sticky.
Check the tyres for perishing too. Brake blocks will need replacement.
Judging by that chainring I’d it’s had little use.

The Campag Gran Sport stopped in 1963.
Is there a frame number stamped into the left rear dropout ? That may give an idea to its date.

From the head badge design the bike could be from 1949-1963

1949-1963: 1st Model

• 1963 as end date based on the introduction of the Galaxy in ’63/’64, and a M-serial (1962) frame with ‘1st model’ and P-serial (1963) with ‘2nd model’ head badge
• This model badge has many different colour variations. The earliest ones having a White letter ‘D’ on a dark blue Background, similar to the head transfers

It has Dawes Talon brakes. Not sure when they reverted to the Weinmann name .
The bike was made as a 5 speed.
I couldn't see any info on the type of steel used. Not sure of the make ?

I have found several examples of Dawes cycles with the Forte 40 steel tubes transfers but can't seem to find anything about them .
