just shows how society has been ruined by the car. even back then, you can see the traffic was quite bad. we've lost the kind of inventiveness that goes with relying on the bike; most people now wonder how they'd get to work ten miles away but for their motorised steel box…

I'll bet post-war rationing had something to do with that.
