Anybody heard of these thinking of getting one for my son for college , not a bad spec sora 16 speed sti .
On offer for £299 leisure lakes bikes any opinions gratefully appreciated

Looks fine for a starter bike. The Decathlon Btwin bikes are very respected as an alternative

Was thinking of that but were in cumbria and nearest stores are Bolton or Stockport

Spec is not that great plus it's a bit heavy at 12kg. There are better options out there, try the Decathlon Triban3 or the Carrera TDF or Zelos from Halfords. Don't forget he'll need a helmet and a good lock.Try to buy product not discount, a lot of these stores play the same games as Supermarkets, marking things up and then reducing it to make it look like you have made a huge saving.

The only thing i am wary of is the fact that every advert i have seen for it on google says sora shifters when they are clearly microshift , not that they are bad but its odd.

A nice new shiny bike for college use might just make it more attractive to steal...... good locks essential & make sure he uses them or the theft insurance will be invalid.
Check he's covered for theft on your house insurance - many do cover students' possessions whilst away from home at college but everything needs to be locked.
