Veloce 9 spd to 8 spd

I have a 9 speed cassette on my Veloce hub. Is it possible to change the cassette to an 8 speed on the same hub to match some 8 speed Veloce shifters I have?

The issues here are that a) Campag 8 and 9/10/11 hubs are different and hence cassettes are not cross-compatible, and b) Campag 8 and 9 sprocket spacings are different.

Because of the above, I think the easiest/cheapest solution is to introduce special spacers to 8 of your 9 speed sprockets to deliver Campag 8 speed sprocket spacing on your existing hub. Highpath sells such spacers.

I don't think so, I believe Campag hubs are 9/10 speed only.

Why don't you contact Mercian Cycles about upgrading the shifter to 9 speed or sending you the bits to do it yourself? There are detailed instructions on Youtube and even having it done for you shouldn't cost any more than a new 8 speed cassette.

Jeez, I'm glad I'm not trying to do it, with Shimano/SRAM its easy just changing spacer my old Mavic Aksium wheel was taken off a bike with an 8spd sram and with removing the spacers it now fits fine on a 10sp bike. It doesn't sound as if Campy is as easy.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give them a call about upgrading the shifter. The bike usually just sits on a Turbo so its not important to be able to select all the gears perfectly. I would just like it to be right.
