Did anyone else see Sammy Miller's rocket-powered funny car?

When I saw it in the late '70s the legs of the start gantry at Santa Pod were clad in sheet metal, and the wash from the engine stripped it all off and sent it flying through the air like confetti. It did the quarter in 4.43s then, but it seems that wasn't the last such incident, this video shows it doing 4.7s and smashing all the windows in the process.

I never saw it, but knew all about it!!

I always wanted to see Shockwave, the jet-powered Peterbilt
I first read about in (the annual special edition) Super Truck, as a side-line to 'Truck' magazine, back in the early 80s

There's no drag racing near where I am, but there are occasional tractor pulls at the local "Coliseum." Which is basically a giant cow barn that's part of the livestock area of the State Fairground.

One year Art Arfons and his daughter Dusty showed up with a couple of jet-powered tractors. I got to meet and chat with him for a few minutes in the pit area.

Art's turn to run came and he backed the Green Monster up to the sled, they hooked it up, and then waved him off. He had bend in the exhaust pipe, directing the exhaust straight up so it wouldn't fry the sled driver. A column of fire came out of the exhaust stack, and then it started to rain... the exhaust blew dozens (hundreds?) of flourescent tubes out of the ceiling and shattered them, blowing broken glass all through the building.

Well, Art always did give a good show...
