will i be ok with 42mm valves?

currenty have 62mm, but need to but a cpl of spares

I would think so. Unless you get into semi-deep / deep aero sections 42 is plenty.

Easy way to double check, measure 2cm from the end of your current valves. If there's still enough left to get a pump on, they'll fit.

Genrally you need 8mm minimum out from the rim, so as long as the rim isn't more than about 30mm deep then you should be okay. I've run 32mm valve on a 25mm rim & I required a Presta valve to Schrader pump adaptor to inflate the tyre.
