After much Covid and subsequently French holiday induced waiting I am now the happy owner of this little "trans-alpine" beauty.

MaxiSports Reynolds 753 made by CYFAC in 1991. One previous owner, I will not say "careful" as he raced it ^_^ (French Div 2) but certainly a methodical owner as he sent me all the original paperwork including the certificate of authenticity signed by Cyrille Guimard himself:okay:

Fully kitted out in Campag C Record/ergo with Campagnolo Neutron, wheels. It climbs like a scalded cat. However, I'm going to have to fit some sturdier wheels and tyres for day to day use as the neutrons are a bit light for the cobbles. cobbles

And before anyone asks , yes, it does have chrome rear stays and yes I did say 753,...what can I say..... those crazy French

Lovely 😍😍😍 How are you finding the Delta brakes? I have always loved the look, but been scared by the horror stories.

Wow, congrats! I've been looking for a steel Cyfac for a long time. Looks a gorgeous frame and if good enough for Laurent Fignon and many other pros, then we know it's top quality frame building.
Big fan of Neutrons too.

Reminds me of one of my bikes from years ago, 14 - 21 6 speed block on the back with 44/40 on the front.
Yes, I ran a lowest gear of 39/21 for a French mountain tour - never again. ...with 8 speed Campagnolo ergolevers that look like what are on this MaxiSports Cyfac.

753 with Neutrons sounds like a combination for a brilliantly riding bike😊

No problems so far they stop me when I need to stop and I like the fact that they are progressive.

Of course I have not had to adjust them yet and that may be another story

The frame is great and the Neutrons roll Fantastically well (Hutchinson Atom tyres at a frankly silly pressure). The overal effect is a bile that feels very fluid, if that makes any sense.

The long term idea is to get Cyfac to repaint in Castorama colours and run it as an inauthentic “replica” with the 8 speed ergos

Yep, the good news is it is only a 51/42 on the front:okay:

However, it rolls so well that I find myself in the big ring more often than is usual these days
Until fairly recently I had a Peugeot which had a 5 speed 14-21 freewheel and a 52/42 up front - most of the roads around here are flat so it rolled wonderfully, but the hills do tend towards the steeper end here albeit mercifully short and being 95+kg I got punished anytime I went uphill.

Gave it to a friend who lives in a completely flat city
