I'm thinking about fitting drop bars to my Kona Lavadome. It's got V brakes so I'd need to fit travel agents. Are they any good and are there any alternatives?

Fit drops and you will likely regeret it.
The top tubes tend to be too long on most MTB's for it to work well.

I fitted them to the sirrus when I converted it to drops and they have improved the braking (I tried without first), it doesn't make it perfect though.

I have them fitted to a kaffenback and they work well, better than the v-brake specific levers from Dia-Compe IMO.
I have also fitted drops to a mtb frame will no ill effects. They were called rtbs once. I wonder what happened to that concept! Anyhoo, I've seen a Kona L.D fitted with drops so it worked for someone!
