V-brake pad inserts

the ones I have are Kool Stops- can I replace the cartridge inserts with Shimano/Clarks/Avid/Tektro etc etc? What I'm trying to say is: are they a standard fitment?

Usually they are the same.

There's a few weird shaped ones out there (usually advertised as streamlined or something similar) but most are standard fit.

Koolstops and Aztec are definitely interchangeable; I'm using Koolstop pads inside Aztec holders at the moment on my Ridgeback Velocity.

Fibrax do a Koolstop like "Extreme" compound that's very good - my LBS has them, I reckon a lot that use the same distributor will too.

You can but none are as good as Kool stops IMO.

Sorry to hijak this thread. But I have a Specialized Secteur Sport road bike and the brakes are utter sh1t, the brake pads look like an all in one and I want to try something else. The Kool Stops only seem to come as inserts and I cannot seem to find any pad carriers anywhere. I am tempted just try Clarks CPS240 carriers and inserts as at least they seem like a reasonable price.

Dotbike. I'd lay a pound to a penny that the ?unbranded? brakes on the Secteur are shimano clones thus what you want are these.
