My father has an old Raleigh mountain which uses nuts on the back wheel to secure it to the frame as opposed to the quick release skewer you get with newer bikes.

He's interested in buying a turbo trainer as the extremely wet weather and short days means he hasn't had the opportunity to get out as often as he would like.

I know that most turbo trainers work on a quick release skewer mechanism and most supply their own skewer to use with the bike. The trouble is that he can't do this as the wheel is secured old school with nuts instead of a quick release system.

Are there any trainers that can accommodate back wheels with nuts or is there any other solution that might work with this setup. I was maybe thinking that he could find another wheel that has a hollow spindle quick release hub and then fit the skewer

My old Raleigh is also used on the turbo and the lbs put some slightly smaller domed nuts on the back. For some reason one side fits in just fine but the other doesn't. You've just reminded me that I intended taking a metal file to it.
(mind you, although it doesn't quite fit on the one side, I've had no problems with it - as in it hasn't fallen off the trainer - yet)
