We're looking at cars as a camper replacement. We are looking for something not too expensive to buy and cheap to run plus reliable. Family of 3 plus small dog but we often have 5 people (two adults and 3 kids ) for kid taxi use. We also camp, need to carry 3 bikes and I might geet bsack into kayaling again so roof bars are likeely investment. I am 196cm tall my son is 11 years old but by the time we will replace this he is likely to bee a lanky bugger so rear space will become more important ass he and his mates grow!!

My partner does not wwant anything too big and is actually looking at the Kia Ceed which reviews state is dull as!!! The astra and focus might make good options and whatcar gives them 5 stars but say the interiors are tacky or plasticky and not good. One focus body type says hard or harsh ride. So the old UK favourites seem lesss than good. SUVs are really not what my partner wants (but she does like the elevation of the van:wacko:).

So does anyone have a good recommendation? I guess petrol and euro 6/5 for ULEZ might be nice too for a kind of prolonging its use sort of thing. TYhis search is battering my sanity.

Skoda Octavia estate (or Superb with endless space but budget might not stretch)

Honda civic tourer. 2015-2017 mk9 I have the hatch, 1.6 diesel no road tax, ulez compliant after 2014or2015. I drive 3-4miles on a commute and do lots of short journeys which isn’t great for a diesel but still averages 60mpg.
Got all the features you want and need

I kind of liked the Octavia but cars like the Superb and Kia Ceed are euro 6 according to the ones I have seen locally but the octavia is euro 5. How does that matter in relation to LEZ and ULEZ charging? Not that it matters as my partner says she wants dull and cheap with hopefully cheaper to run. Kind of smaller to get better MPG and other running costs. She does not like the bulk of Octavia and Superb. She thinks we ddon';t need the space but I think we will at least twice a year for holidays.

I was wondering if there is a decent toyota for that price, say a corolla which I think is focus sized. Auris is too small when I loooked at the back seat. It had what looked like 2" of legroom!!!!!

I like Hyundai (even despite those bossy adverts telling us how to pronounce the name) but not sure they have anything that is right.

Seat Leon estate is Golf sized.
I've had a Fabia estate for 11 years, but I'd say too small for a family of 5 to use regularly. There'd be little to no room behind a 6ft+ driver

Why would this be a bad thing?

Cars are a tedious waste of cash and space. If you need one, a dull one will be cheaper than a flash one and have exactly the same utility.

Embrace the Kia!

So what does one do when they have a surplus of cash? Hoard it? My fully equipped Skoda drives nothing like a Kia, it is far superior, which is why I own one
