How do I remove the free hub off my easton wheel?
IMAG0385.jpg

In theory it should just pull off?

Looks like that way - you have taken the two end nuts off so the axle should push right through

I haven't come across your type of wheel so this is based on the ones I've met. I've only actually changed one freehub, mine have all lasted the life of the wheel, perhaps I'm just lucky!

Looks as if the spindle (axle) is stuck. That should come out from either end. I'd try taking all the nuts, bearings and bits off the other end and see if it'll come out.

The freehub itself, if it's like the one on my son's old bike, will have an allen key hexagon inside - not sure what size it was but my kit only goes up to 12mm so it can't be bigger than that - I put the allen key in the vice, put the wheel onto it, and carefully turned the rim, which removed the freehub with very little force needed at the rim. I used one from a wrecked wheel to replace it, and that was a bit more difficult as I had to clamp the hub and use my piece of pipe on the allen key, but still not a problem

Edit: Just seen the link in the post a minute before mine - that's very similar to what I dealt with, but is a more upmarket hub with better bearings. The principle's the same though.

I'm pretty sure that it's one of those that need a pretty meaty blow to free the axle - but you need to be 100% sure before doing so!

Okay i had the same problem with my Easton wheel and in the end i went to my friendly LBS to ask his advice and sure enough he did what i was loathe to do .......

I held the wheel and he gave it a bloody hard blow with a mallet and sure enough it worked. I personally wouldn't have had the nerve to hit it that hard but hey he has never let me down yet.

If you look at the link in Pete's post in the third pic they do exactly that.

When you take the spindle out you might probably find it's slightly scored and the bearing is stuck on that.

It is very similar, the only difference is that there is no thread on the drive side. I'll leave it until I can get hold of a 10mm Allen key. Cheers for the link!
