We have a window with a broken handle, replacing it looks to be as simple as -

Unscrew old bits

Slot new part into locking mechanism

Screw new handle on tight

Is it really that simple or have I missed something?

Yes it is very easy, I did my front door handle in minutes, I bought mine from Tool Station.

Think it could be prudent to dismantle and measure the shaft length and buy one of that length or be prepared to cut it. Maybe most modern windows have the same shaft length.

I found it very easy to replace a handle on a relatively recent window (about 20 years old).

A different story on an older door; that whole thing is being replaced soon.

Cheers everyone, job jobbied.

Only trouble is the lock mechanism'quite loose so it looks like a new window's needed.

When you say the mechanism is loose, you might just need to undo the Phillips screws and replace the mechanical bits as opposed to a new window.

Might be just the plate on the frame need adjusting & tightening. The locking mechanism (espagnolette rod) is pretty cheap to replace if faulty.
