Had a pleasant surprise this morning. The Cardiff Bay end of the Ely Trail cycle/walking path has been tarmaced between Dunleavy Drive and Penarth Road. Last time I looked in there it was axle deep in mud but now nice smooth tarmac. There is a short section by Penarth road that is gravel but it is small tightly packed stuff ,I easilly rode it on a roadbike with 23c tyres.
Havent ridden the rest lately. Last time I tried the path is great from Penarth road to Sanatorium road but you then have to ride on some busy roads to get back on it at Ely Bridge to continue to St Fagans.
Eventually it will be a great assett linking the bottom of the Taff Trail to St Fagans .Like most things its probably suffering from tight budget syndrome but its good to know that some improvements are occurring.
There are some pleasant picnic areas with benches by the river if anyone wanted to take the family or whatever,
The blue line is the newly tarmaced bit.
