Hello I have a 1986 schwinn and it has a shimano ug 5 speed cassette that has a wobble only when you spin the wheel as a whole!not when you just spin the cassette???!My question is what upgrades to the cassette i.e. 6 or 7 speed or any hub replacement types that are compatible!finally if the cassette only has a wobble when i spin the wheel as a whole then what would the wobble be coming from???Thank you!!

5 speed will be a freewheel, not a cassette. You'll need a 6 or 7 speed freewheel and a freewheel removal tool (there are several types so make sure you get the right one). Has it been on there long? If it has, you'll need a lot of oomph to unscrew it, as the action of pedaling tightens it on to the thread. Do you friction shifters, or indexed? (Indexed is where the lever "clicks" from gear to gear). If they are indexed you'll need new shifters too, but I don't think 5 speed were ever indexed. As to the source of the wobble, they all do that sir, it's part of their charm.

With a 5 speed UG cassette presumably you have something like this? If so you can check this out to see what might be possible if you want to do something with the freehub.

BUT if the cassette spins straight on its own but wobbles when the wheel is spun, then chance is the freehub is fine but you have issues within the hub's freehub interface or the cup and cone bearing system.

Since 5 speed freehubs are rare, first thing is probably to check whether you have a freewheel or a cassette/freehub.
