Hi all, hope the pictures explain the situation. Changed pads this afternoon and noticed that the protruding 'handle' part of the pad was clearly worn and etched. The contact surface of the pad itself seemed unevenly worn too. What could cause this? Has it moved in the caliper and I have been subjecting the rotor to friction that is not actually the braking surface of the pad? New pads in okay and rotor seems fine. Very odd, no noise or judder. Just thought I'd put new pads in. Thanks for any advice/explanation. Gez

OK, now that I've corrected my vision with a glass of red wine, I think I see the problem. Your pads are wider than the friction track on the disc. Needless to say, it cannot wear where it makes no contact. I also suspect (but I'll have to take another sip first) that the pads were in upside down, if that is possible. It seems as if the removal tabs were pointing towards the inside of the disc instead of the outside, hence the unnatural contact.

Totally OT

I went to see Focus

Unfortunately Jan Akkermann and Thijs Van Leer had one of their spats

So the venue organised an unknown London Band for half price

So we saw The Clash

It looks like the tab of the pad has been pressing against the dsic too, judging by the striation marks.

@Gez73 Could you provide a photo of the disc too, please (in focus!)?

Ha, sorry for crap photos. Bike in shed now and belting down. Rotor is fine to be honest. Just surprised at the pad wear. LBS put them in about six months ago so I decided to change them. Never noticed if they were correctly aligned. Will work on photography skills. Thanks Gez
