Got my new bike yesterday. All new clothing and shoes...rode 30 miles last night and 75 today... Although the shoe's are new they are so comfortable not tight at all (mavic energy comp). But at about 60 miles in I started getting an intense sharp burning pain in my toes on both feet, left more so!!!..I did spend more time out of the saddle than usual and more than all of the lads that were out.I'm new to cycling only been cycling so I'm still trying to get fit. Would appreciate any advice.

I hope its not that ;(, ... I was think the same and it could be caused by pressure on the foot by the position of the cleet on the new shoe as the center of the cleet is between the ball and the toe's, so I've moved them back towards the ball.. My mountain bike shoe's don't give me this problem... I'm hoping this sorts the problem by putting more pressure directly on the ball and not between the ball and toe's .

Are you wiggling your toes regularly? Does it go away when you put normal shoes on? I expect it'll just be the super stiff soles. I often have foot pain while riding, generally goes away once I take the shoes off and move my toes around. I. Think it's down to not moving the feet like when walking

Before you sign up to have your toes amputated try to look at this rationally.
Spiderman casts a web over the obvious.
Assuming that you have ridden a lot without this problem what has changed? It sounds like everything from what you say.
The pressure on a minimal pedal like most clip less pedals needs to be spread over a wider area of the foot by the sole of the shoe
and shoe makers address this in different ways. This would be my first consideration.

From your description it sounds like you cleat is too far forward although im not sure if this would result in sore toes. That might be due to your feet swelling during the ride and your shoes becoming a bit tight, just loosen them off a bit mid ride and see if that helps

Google Steve Hogg cleat positioning for some tips on where to put your cleats

I Watched this last night very interesting speciality with my new foot problem. Think I might of been correct I will find out on my next big ride.

Funnily enough, I discovered that video a few nights ago when testing YouTube on my new smart TV. I found it interesting. I liked some of his impressions of riders ...

I ride flats and changed my trainers earlier in the year and started getting really bad pains in my feet after about 80 miles. I went back to my old trainers this weekend and had no pain.

I've had toe pain, in the little-piggy-that-had-none on my left foot. It comes on after about 100km, and hurt so badly I expected my sock to be soaked in blood. However, there was not only no blood, but the toe looked perfectly normal. Cure was shoes and socks off, and wiggle the toes for a few minutes. Then I was good for another 100km.

Still using the same setup, but it doesn't happen as much or as badly now.

You know what the answer is............stop riding more than 80 miles!

Seriously though, I think soles that are a bit too soft can cause pain from the pedals on a long ride.
