hi all

I've just put a 16t freewheel on my 20 x 1 3/8 shopper/Raleigh twenty bike. The wheels are single speed not a traditional stormed archer 3 speed hub. Anyway there was an 18t and I was spinning out so I swapped it for the 16t. Freewheel came off and new one threaded back on and now it engages backwards. I feel like I must have done something outrageously stupid...

Anyone have any bright ideas before I head to the LBS.

Many thanks

Yep, you've screwed it on 'back to front' whip it off then turn it round and screw it back on again...............................simples :becool:

I wasn't sure myself, and spent a couple of minutes drawing circles in the air, working out clockwise and the other one, whatever it's called.

I keep thinking that! How did the OP get it on in the first place? Surely it would just click away, spin around and not go down the thread ....

The chain will unscrew it, it's on backwards. (you know how a screw on block/freewheel tightens itself as you ride, this one will undo if you pedal backwards)
Ah, good point. No tools needed for the OP.

Exactly how did I get it on in the first place? There's no thread tother side. Pedalling forward screwed it on but now it freewheels forwards and engages pedalling backwards! I'm so confused .

That's odd, pedalling forward screwing it on is right...looking at the front face Dan you see the makers name and 2 slots?

A freewheel is threaded normally (right handed) and in that way is similar to any other 'nut' in that it will screw onto a thread (on the hub)
Take it off, turn it around and screw it back on, it will be fine.

If it was put on the wrong way round then instead of screwing on it would click on the pawls and freewheel?
