Currently Hellfords have Continental Ultra GatorSkin 700 x 28 Bike tyres for £5 each.

Setting the place of purchase aside are these tyres any good?

Bit confused, low price but the forum appears to be silent on this apparent 'bargain'.

Regards to all

Occasionally, Continental need to dispose of a load of 'Factory seconds'. I buy Conti inners like this. The Presta thread pin is slightly bent. No problems. They still hold air.

Tyres are a different matter. Screaming down a hill at 40 mph, you don't want the bead to come adrift. A first inspection, there appears nothing wrong with them, but when they've 110 psi inside them ?????

£5 sounds too low. Approach with scepticism.

had a pair new and full price, gave tem away after two weeks for a couple of reasons, some like some don't, flats, cutting and letting go in the wet

Asking about tyres here Satans Budgie, is like asking if members like Marmite...some love em, some hate em with a vengeance.
Me, i like them (Gators and Marmite  )
My last 3 sets of tyres have all been Gators. Undeniably fast, really quite good puncture protection, although i have slit one tyre....but who's to say ANY tyre wouldnt have been slit by a shard of glass.

Slippy in the wet ? Maybe...but not that ive noticed to any degree. I had one quite bad slip as i cranked it round a bend at speed ...but there was a manhole i'd just ran over...thats what caused the problem i believe. I also slipped at very slow speed on a wet manhole. Bloomin dangerous things.

Two incidents in 8 years...not even worth mentioning really.

Winter, summer, dry and wet..i use them all year round, and will continue to do.

On the price aspect...£5...you probably couldnt buy a Kenda cheap and nasty tyre for £5...why on earth wouldnt you buy a Conti Gator  They couldnt possibly be a better bargain at £5. (considering may last 23Cs cost me £20 each at the LBS)

There may be better tyres than the Gator...but NOT at £5 each.

As far as I am aware yes they would. I guess they could claim ignorance of teh fact and bounce you between Conti and themselves. That said a 2nds Conti is still going to be better than a regular Halfrauds tyre by a mile. IMHOO

If they were factory seconds, wouldn't they have to sell them as such?
