Okay, so I've got my gleaming new Forme 3.0, the son of a colleague who works in a bike shop has built the thing (mail order, arrived in a box) and I'm ready to go.

Problem is I have never used these kind of gears before!

I have 2x10 speed shimano tiagra derailleurs with microshift shifters.

I'm guessing the shifters on the left bar control the 2 crank sprockets and the 2 on the right bar control the 10 speeds on the rear cassette??

Each shifter has a small button/lever above a larger lever. Which way do they work? Is the large lever for moving the chain up to bigger sprockets and the small down to smaller ones or vice versa?

Loads of info out there reviewing the microshift system and videos showing how to install them but not much on how to bleeding use them!

Thanks in advance

Steve

Get someone to spin the pedals and hold the bike so the back wheel's off the floor - then have a play with the shifters:smile: (Make sure that the person holding and spinning keeps their fingers well away from the chain!)

Get on, clip in and pedal, you will work it out.

clips! not a chance (but that's another story)

Took Simon R's advice did the spinny thing, crank on the left, cassette on the right just like previous bikes, small to change to smaller sprocket, big for....... well bigger obviously!

Saving first ride 'till tomorrow morning, shall report back on my first proper road bike experience.

I have the female version of the Longcliffe 3.
Left hand large paddle moves onto big ring at the front and small switch drops it onto the small ring.
Right hand large paddle drops the rear gear down to an easier gear and small switch puts it up into a harder gear.
Enjoy your bike. I have done around 5700 miles on mine. It will take full mudguards as well which may be a bonus soon!

I had the cover of Royal Scam as my avatar for a while. Their collection would be on the desert island with me, good to have another appreciator on the forum.

Going off topic ever so slightly here but if you ever get a chance to see 'Nearly Dan' a Stoke on Trent based (sort of) SD tribute band playing, take it! They really are superb and tour most areas of the country.

Even when they were three? Precocious!

A lot of space on my mix tapes in high school and college were taken up by Steely Dan. Fine music, and cuttingly witty lyric.
