I have a spare wheelset thay came with my Specialized Tarmac Expert 2009. I had a pre exisiting set of wheels put on the bike and so was given the wheelset seperately.

On the Specialized website is says they should be:

FRONT HUB
Shimano Ultegra SL, QR

REAR HUB
Shimano Ultegra SL, alloy cassette, QR

On the hubs it say's WH-6600.

So are they SL's or WH-6600's? Or is SL and WH-6600 the same thing?

I thought 6600 was standard Ultegra (not the SL). Although given the complexites of Shimanos numbering system I've no reason to doubt they're not the correct wheelset.

Strangely the hubs on Shimano factory built wheels always seem to be significantly lower quality than the 'after market' hubs you can buy for handbuilt wheels.

I just did a search for Ultegra SL wheels and they are all marked as WH-6600 with no SL marking on them anywhere. So it seems you've got the right ones. Like Andy_WRX says is seems to be down to colour.

SL's look like this:

Regular Ultegra are lighter in colour and look like this:
