I just replaced my ultegra hydraulic pads I presume yours will be the same Shimano code is lo3a the one you have are probably lo2a which the above replaces . These are the finned resin pads .
Just be careful with the pad restraining bolt mine was seized and made of cheese otherwise simple job YouTube is full of videos . You can use a different brand like Clarke's which are massively cheaper £5 at set

Use the old pads to help push the pistons back, basically with a screwdriver.

New pads will have more material and possibly won't allow the disc in without the pistons retracted

I was thinking of buying a spare retaining bolt - in the case the worse did happen - would this be the correct one ?

Correct bolt
Pads will fit but are sintered (metal) lo4a they will wear the rotor quicker . The one I used are resin lo3a
Off my two bolts 1 came out easy the other was completely seized you will soon know when you go to undo be careful applying force as I rounded off the head without much effort

They are the ones I used . Wether they are better than the sintered is a personal choice . I would check your old pads if they have lo2a on them then lo3a is the direct replacement and would swap like with like

All done - well the front brake. Only took around 15 minutes - easier than v brakes to be honest. Thanks all for your help.
