Ultegra chains

My neighbour told me this morning that he has had his Ultegra chain break again. This is the second one in the last few months. His bike shop replaced the last one for free since it had broken after such a short time.

Just wondered if it is bad luck or if there have been problems with a bad batch or something. He doesn't race or anything and maintains his bikes well.

Worth trying another brand?

He's not really into computers so thought I would ask on here on his behalf.

Agreed.
basic KMC chains are peachy unless you need uktra-light weight. Fancy coatings look nice and are worthless. KMC site has good chain-care info too.

Thanks, I'll suggest to him that he tries one of these instead.

KMC here on all bar one bike. That has a 9 speed Dura Ace one though, which has the fancy joining pin.

KMC chains are excellent, and no real need for the super fancy ones.

Shimano chains are rubbish. And their connector pin is a pain in the arse.

what???? must be only w then, been riding on shimano chain 8 and 9 speed and never had a problem. if the pin is fitted a per instructions, it works perfectly fine.

having aid all that, i now buy kmc chains as they are cheaper and come in a nice gold colour
