Hi, recently got my hands on a new bike with Ultegra 6700 groupset. This new groupset has a "re-engineered" uni-directional chain. I have always used ( and really like ) KMC chains. Is it at all problematic to do so with this groupset ? Ta for any and all input.

No problem. KMC are Shimano compatible.

Yeah I know KMC is apparently Shimano Compat. I`ve used KMC on my old Shimano groupset BUT with the new 6700 set the chain ( I think ) has been designed for "more accurate shifting" ( as the blurb might have it ). My question really should read "will there be an adverse shifting affect if the Ultegra chain is not used in favour of the KMC ?"

Sounds about right to me. I was however hoping some punter had used the combination I`m talking about and replied along the lines of " I have used a KMC with the new rig and in fact it performs all the better for it !". At any rate ta for the reply mate.

Shimano say the same bullshit for their other groupsets too.. ie Dura Ace, 105 etc.
In my experience it makes no difference what so ever. In fact I will go as far as to say that KMC chains pee all over Shimano chains.

Ignore any Shimano blurb that gets in front of you..

The KMC chains are the best on the market right now.. bar none. The X10SL in particular is just amazing.
Just go with the KMC.. better chain..and you know you want to..

Ta for all inputs. Yup, KMC 10SL is what I normally used and I will revert back to it as soon as this Ult. chain reaches its "best by date". Ta again all.

so what's the deal with these new uni-directional shimano chains? I use the Shimano 105 5600 groupset but it's now been replaced with the 5700 groupset which uses this directional chain and cassette. Can I use a new 5700 chain on my 'old' 5600 cassette? The 5600 chains are getting hard to find already - should I stock up?

I have just installed a 105 5701 chain onto my 5600 system and it works no problems!

I've just bought a kmc chain for this groupset. The shop said it would be a lit better as the new ultegra chain is known to have problems with it and many riders have been back to the shop saying that the ultegra chain is actually snapping after around 400 miles. I've also scouted the web for reviews and found that others have had the same problem so I've stayed away from this chain.
