Can anybody explain why the Ultegra 6700 cassette is not available in a 12-28 version?

They do 11-23, 11-25 and 11-28, but only a 12-23 & 12-25 but no 12-28! I had a look at the Shimano website and downloaded a technical PDF which indicates that the components are the same.

From a personal POV I would probably go for a 28T, but really don't have any need for a 11T; the 16T that comes with the 12-25 would be far more useful.

It has occurred to me that I could buy an 11-28 AND a 12-25, put the bits that I need together to make a 12-28 and the flog the resulting 11-25 on the 'Bay, but it does seem a bit of a faff! Why don't Shimano just sell it...???

The 6600 comes in a 12-27 which would get you close enough to that low gear while retaining a useable range. Can't imagine there's too much difference in quality between the two.

I was going to suggest a SRAM cassette but noticed they too have stopped the 12-28 since going 10spd which seems a bit odd. They used to do one in 9spd. :hello:
