just got an email from the yha...they only have the hostel list as pdf file not poi....so..i guess the next thing is to find a way to convert that to a poi file ...man...pen paper real map just works so much easier....until I get on the bike

When do you need it by? I'm toying with the idea of manually marking all the UK hostels using my MemoryMap software and saving the marks to a GPX file. It would take me a day or two though. I assume that GPX format would be okay?
If I decide to do it, I will include the telephone number for each hostel. Would any other information be needed?

...im not a techo boffin so I don't really know if gpx is the correct format or not....I want to be able to load the garmin via poi loader so that wherever I am at the end of a ride I can hit 'custom poi' and have it guide me into the nearest hostel.

I was thinking that it would be a nice thing to feature on my new website, once I get it working. We have already established that it is very hard to find the information in the right format, so it would be a useful thing to do.
It would take me a couple of minutes to look up each hostel and its phone number so I should be able to do the whole country in a day. I'll check each one to see if it is still open - my map software is about 8 years old so I'm sure that some of the hostels will have closed by now.
I'll post a link below when I have created my YHA/SYHA page and you can test the file to see if it works for you.

A quick test ... see if the attached file means anything to POI loader. (It is a GPX file with 3 Brighton landmarks in it, each with a comment.)

I downloaded to my docs then tried it in poi loader but it doesn't see the file. I tried to upload it to bike route toaster but it doesn't upload.
Please remember that I am a nob and this could very easily be just pilot error on my behalf.
I had poi loader recognize my garmin then browse for the file,,,I think poi loader accepts gpx and csv files so I don tknow why it cant see this one...ill keep trying
