Uh-oh - what have I done - rear shifting issues

So decided to clean my bike up this afternoon - wiped down the frame and decided to take the rear wheel off and give it a clean. Put some degreaser on the cogs which in hindsight it probably didnt need.

Now, put the rear back on and the shifting on rear mech isnt right - on the biggest cogs the chain shifts all over and the actual cage moves around. Once in the middle it just makes a clicking noise every couple of rotations of the wheel.

I took it off and put back on again, but no different.

Any idea what I've done?

have you inadvertently adjusted the cable length and de-indexed them?

Pictures always help.

Did you remove/replace the wheel whilst the frame was on the work stand? Get the bike back on the ground and re-set the QR.

I've recently had a similar experience, I had to remove my rear wheel to fix a puncture (damn you continental cyclocross speed tyres!), and when I put my rear wheel back on I could feel big vibrations through my pedals in 7, 8, 9 at the back and 2,3 at the front. The gears shifted okay and the wheel was spinning smoothly. Nothing looked like it was grinding. The solution was to leave about 1mm distance between the axle and top of the dropouts, now the shifting has fairy like lightness up and down the casette, spins fine and the only 'problem' is shift from 8 to 9 feels sudden and like 2 shifts. I should mention my dropouts front and back needed greasing otherwise the frame would creak.
