Hi i have these tyres Vittoria Zaffiro Slick 700x23, and they feel great on the road, but am a bit worried about them in the damp, being new to road bikes am not sure what would be a better tyre for the winter,
any advice.

They are fine in winter conditions (apart from ice and snow).
Its an entry level road tyre so there is little puncture protection.

So what would you reccomend as a good puncture proof tyre, there seems to be so many tyres out there where would you start. i know i could search through the forums, but what with new stuff coming out and me being a nuisance err sorry newbie, would rather know what others are using.

If you want a robust tyre that has a more depth for a comfortable ride, look at a Specialized Roubaix tyre, they have quite a thick tread.

TBH I wouldn't worry too much about punctures if I was you; keep out of the gravel and rubbish at the edges of the road and keep the tyres pumped up hard. I've done 3400 miles so far on the Roubaix, Vittoria Rubino Pros and now Michelin Pro Race (the best) and only had one puncture and that was in a sportiff when some kids were throwing tacks on the road then collecting inner tubes.

I tend to use the cheap version of Vittoria Rubinos (less than £20 a pair) year-round on all my road bikes. Approaching 5K miles so far this year and no flats. But I do check them before every ride and dig out any little flints etc. I find the grip fine in dry or wet - if you're talking about ice/snow then no regular road tyre will cope with that.

I use Vittoria Rubino Pros, and they served me well through year round commuting on Cornish lanes. I only started cycling in Spain a couple of months ago, so it hasn't been long enough to really test how they cope with the (different kind of) abuse they get here.
