Tyres - how to work out which size I can put on

I have a hybrid bike with 700x35 tyres on. They came with the bike and now have a couple of thousand miles on them - so will probably need replacing soon. As my ride is mainly roads I'd like to replace them with narrower/slicker tyres. Is there some science to working out the minimum width of tyre I could get away with?

You should be able to find it out if you know what rims are on the bike e.g. http://www.mavic.com...lon/rims/CXP-33 take 19-28mm tyres

Using the table on Sheldon's site, this rim would take something like 20-35
