Here for rides.
I've signed up and paid the deposit for some island-hoping off the coast of the Scottish mainland on an MTB come September.

I know 3/4 of the riding with be on tarmac and the off-road stuff is not likely to be highly technical thus I'm not expecting a proper uberMTB holiday but rather a relatively easy-going road trip with the odd off-road but not particularly mountainous, excursion.

I'm taking the hardtail, Boardman HT Mk I in 2 x 10 mode, and wonder what tyres to put on. I'm not wrecking my normal rubber on all that tarmac and being a conti-fanboy I'm thinking either old-skool double-fighters II, X King or Race Kings. All cheap as chips in wire bead mode off Wiggle. I don't want to drop more than £20 a hoop for holiday tyres; I'd rather spend my spondolics on beer and malt whisky.

What else does the hive-mind of cc think I should consider?

If they don't need to be knobbly, the Comfort Contact (or whatever Conti have replaced it with) is a really nice tyre. Rolls well, has enough p* protection (it's only a kevlar breaker belt, but I didn't suffer many unplanned deflations, even commuting on them) and cheap - my pair were £15, iirc.

I rode mine on gravelly bridleways and they were fine - depends how far off road you're heading, I guess
