I'm about to embark on a long-distance (1000 miles) charity cycle ride. I thought this was to be road-only but now find some is to be on cycle paths etc.
I'm doing this on my Meck Poggio 2 road bike on which I have Mavic rims capable of 23mm-28mm tyres.
I currently have 23mm Continental Ultrasport tyres, I have the option here of some 25mm Bontragers (supposedly better P-resistant) which are on my other bike - both of these are smooth road tyres.
Shall I risk it with these or shall I go for something like this - http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/ro...ental-contact-2-reflex-rigid-tyre/conttyrr219 which are available in 28mm??
I'm not keen to spend a lot more than this (£18.50 each).

I have 10 days to sort this.... help please!!

..a long way from somewhere called Home..
23mm Continental Ultra sport tyres

i have these ... and am a bit leary on our country roads [lotsa sharp gravel ] but so far so good [ crossed fingers]
at 95psi i find them a harsh ride

so when due for replacement - will move up to 700 x 25c
and have decided these are a good cheaper compromise with 'some' puncture protection

Just get some gatorskins 3 punctures in 5000 miles and none of them due to anything going through the tyre. I was forever having punctures on the Ultra Sports.

I agree totally, get Continental gatorskins, not the cheapest but definetly 1 of the best value for money deals out there,? A tyre fitter of 25yrs experience/cyclist for 40yrs, 700x23/700x25/700x28. I recommend 700x25 if your not racing, get new tubes at the same time contis if possible. these tyres just keep going and going, and are light enough to race on. Bye for now.Pete.

Thanks Guys,

We're not racing - personally I'll be content to finish each stage...
I've some unused Conti tubes so that's a help.
Hand in pocket time I think.....
