Tyres fitted in wrong direction?

I've fitted the front tyre on my mountain bike, ( set up for road biking) , the wrong way round.

It's a 26 x 1.5 specialised nimbus road tyre, and the directional arrow is pointing backwards. It was an absolute pig to fit, very tight and I was concerned using the lever that I might catch the inner tube. I really don't want to take it off again, however if it is important that it is the right way round I'll get right to it.

I haven't fitted the rear tyre yet!

If you ride with it like that you'll go backwards, grow a second head, go no more than 100m without falling off, the chain will come off at both ends, the brakes will squeal, all the bearings will seize up, and you'll find that you just go round in circles.

I did that with a marathon and it made such a huge difference I didn't notice for at least 1500 miles.

I can't turn the wheel around due to hydraulic disc brakes.

Davidc, - am I right then to assume it will probably make little difference? ( I don't mind a second head, it can suffer my wife's nagging in my place...)

i would presume that it wont drive rain water out effectively if its on the wrong way round. If it didn't matter, they wouldn't put a directional arrow on it i suppose.

Just turn it round the right way, sounds like you need to practice:laugh:.

I'll bet you'd really have to be going at quite a clip, to hydroplane on a bicycle. Even if your tire is on backwards.
Because of the width and shape of a bike tyre, it is actually impossible to hydroplane one. I know this is true, cos Sheldon tells me so!

I've got Nimbus's, they are tight but doable. So far I've never fitted them the wrong way around and as I have v's it only matters on the back but I bet I will now I've read this thread!
